Helping a child (or adult) to understand something new that previously baffled them feels to me like a personal triumph. Learning, I believe, is a bit of a mystery in itself - I believe that every individual learns a bit differently; hence, every person has to be taught according to their learning style. Because I struggle with new concepts/ideas myself (as opposed to those gifted individuals who don't even break a sweat in school), I break down difficult problems into pieces & explain it to myself in the simplest terms I can. I think I am an effective tutor because of the fact that in order to learn, I essentially have to tutor myself, first, which makes it easier for me to explain it to others.
