In order to graduate from my high school, every senior had to complete a service project of 150 hours. We had two weeks to accomplish this. I chose to assist at a grade school where some kids needed extra help. I worked primarily with fourth graders, but I learned a lot about tutoring. Regardless of age, you must be patient and understanding. I think the two weeks I spent at this school would definitely help me tutor in the future. My grades have always been above average. I received a 3.58 GPA at a college preparatory high school. I was on the first honors roll a couple of times as well the second honors roll. I scored a 27 on my ACT and received a small scholarship from K-State for my efforts. So far, I have a 3.75 GPA through my first 24 hours of college credit. I plan on majoring in Accounting because I have always been good with numbers. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy helping other people learn. It is a gratifying feeling once someone has grasped the idea you are teaching them. I felt this feeling a few times when I was doing my senior service project. I also think that it would help me in the long run because I would gain more experience in my field if I tutored math. Right now, I am taking Statistics for Business and Economics, which is relevant to math and what I plan on doing in the future. I am excited to begin taking my Accounting courses next fall. For now, I am taking general education classes along with Statistics. Other than my grades, I enjoy excelling in athletics. In high school, I was cut from the golf team my freshman year. Two years later, I won a varsity golf tournament. Although this has nothing to do with tutoring, it demonstrates my persistence and willingness to put in the time, which are two qualities that a tutor needs.
